3rd Annual Northeast Harbor Road Race
5-Miler, August 23rd, 1980
The 3rd Annual Northeast Harbor Road Race was a real serendipity. Rufus Williams has a course that rivals Camden in beauty: 2 1/2 miles out and back on a locked-to-traffic Sargent Drive with a breathtaking view of Somes Sound in the middle.
There was an unheard of field of 187 runners with names like Dupont and Rockefeller. There was Mike Westphal passing the antique pace car. Robin Emery ran an excellent 30:16 and although I merely jogged it while recovering from the Mad Witch, I enjoyed this race as much as any I've ever run.
