6th Annual YMCA Spring 5-k and fun run

Runners young and old braved the heat June 8 to compete in the 6th annual fun run and 5-k spring race, sponsored by the Mt. Desert Island YMCA.
The Fun run, a one mile race for children ages 12 and younger, saw its best turnout. Fifty-five children finished the race.
Doug Frongillo, 11, of Bar Harbor was first across the finish line in front of the Jesup Library in a time of 6 minutes, 11 seconds.
The Reisman siblings, Sarah and Will, were not far behind as 12-year old Sarah finished second in 6:17 and 10-year old Will ended up third in 6:29.
Participants in the Fun run recieved gigt certificates for ice cream cones donated by the snack Station, Ben & Bill's, Sweet Tooth, Big Dipper and TCBY. They also recieved a token for a free game of miniature golf at Pirates Cove.
In the 5-k race, Jay Saunders, 22, of Atlanta, outdistanced the field to win the 3.1-mile race in 16 minutes, 35 seconds. Andy Beardsley, 27, of Ellsworth, was second in 16:52, while Cliff Rogers, 32, of Ellsworth, finished third in 17:02.
Susan Harkin, 29, of Little Deer Isle, was the first woman to finish. She completed the course in 19:52, 26th place overall. Sue Foster, 32, of Bar Harbor, was second in 20:27. Sheila Hodges, 36, of Hampden, was third in 20:45.
Foster and David Renault, 42, of Bar Harbor, were the first local finishers. Renault finished 5th in 17:40 to win the men's division, ages 36 to 45.
The Races were sponsored by the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, Acadia Corporation, LaVerdiere's, First national Bank, Dobbs Productions and Don's Shop and Save.

56 and older- Fred Crews 22:45, Fred Ely 24:07
