Mens, womens records set in Quietside 10-k

SOUTHWEST HARBOR- The top finishers in both the mens and womens divisions
set course records as they competed in the 1995 Quietside 10-k Road Race
held Saturday.
The turnout was the largest field in the five years that the race has been
run, according to organizer Rick Cegelis.
Thirty-nine runners competed in the event sponsored by the Harbor House,
while 18 kids participated in the 1-mile Kids Fun Run earlier that morning.
Running under clear skies and beautiful weather, Geoff Mearns finished 2:12
ahead of second-place Rob Jordan with a time of 35:10, good enough to give
him the win and to set a new course record.
First in the womens division and sixth overall, Janet Feldman, who summers
in Brooklin, completed the course in 40:21, which also gave her a new course
record in the womens division. Sue Foster came in nine seconds later behind
Feldman to place second in the womens division and seventh overall. Jim
Gothreau came in third just behind Jordan with a time of 37:30, while Doug
Crist nabbed fourth just ahead of Karl Johnson, finishing at 39:12 and
39:45, respectively.

My first 10K!

Wow, that's a walk down Memory Lane. All I remember is that that was my first 10K and I bonked big time. Went out too fast and crashed on Fernald Point Road. It sure is great to see all of the familiar names. AND, although I have no hope of getting a 5K PR in my 40s, I'm pretty sure I can beat 49:55 for a 10K before I turn 50. In 1995 I thought that 6.2 miles was a REALLY long distance. Thank you guys for all your time and research. You gave me a new goal today.

fun memory

These results brought back fond memories for me. I'm from Gettysburg, PA and I ran this race on the last day of my first experience at the legendary Maine Running Camp. Andy Palmer recommended it, and I ran with Lou Santoni and the Hennesseys. I'm sure you Maine folks have a special place for Andy in your hearts. I know that I always will. Thanks for the memories.
